Practical design. Structural expertise.
A coordinated architectural and structural design service
for residential and commercial projects across Sheffield and the UK

DJM Building Design is led by David Martin, a Civil and Structural Engineer with approximately 15 years of experience across residential, commercial and industrial projects.
David holds a BEng in Structural Engineering with Architectural Studies and an MSc in Earthquake and Civil Engineering Dynamics, both from the University of Sheffield.
His career spans everything from residential extensions and structural alterations to major commercial developments, complex steel-framed buildings and large-scale infrastructure projects.
Combining architectural understanding with structural engineering expertise, David provides practical, coordinated design solutions, including structural calculations, architectural drawings, steelwork design, inspections and technical reporting.
As an independent consultant, David works directly with homeowners, developers, architects, contractors and fabricators, providing a professional, approachable and personalised service from initial concept through to construction.

From home extensions and loft conversions to structural alterations and new-build properties, DJM Building Design provides practical architectural design and structural engineering solutions for residential projects.
Combining design expertise with technical engineering knowledge, we help homeowners develop their ideas into considered, workable proposals.
Whether you require a complete design and submission package or assistance with one specific element of your project, our services can be tailored to your requirements.

From initial concepts to detailed architectural drawings, we help homeowners explore the possibilities for their property.
Whether planning an extension, loft conversion, internal reconfiguration or new-build home, we develop practical designs that consider space, functionality, appearance and structural feasibility.

Structural engineering is fundamental to safe, successful building alterations.
We provide structural assessments, design drawings and calculations for residential projects, including steel beams, load-bearing wall removals, foundations, roof alterations and extensions.
Our integrated approach considers structural requirements alongside the architectural design.

Understanding planning requirements can be one of the more confusing aspects of a building project.
We prepare architectural drawings and supporting documentation for planning applications, submitting proposals to the relevant local authority and assisting with queries throughout the application process.
Where appropriate, we can also advise on projects that may fall within permitted development rights.

Building Regulations establish the technical requirements that construction projects must meet.
We prepare drawings, structural calculations and supporting technical information for Building Regulations submissions, helping homeowners and builders understand the requirements before work begins.
Our aim is to provide clear, coordinated documentation that supports the building control process.

Building works close to neighbouring properties may require formal procedures under the Party Wall etc. Act 1996.
We can assist with identifying potential party wall considerations, preparing relevant notices and providing technical information to support the process.
Where specialist surveying appointments or formal awards are required, the appropriate arrangements can be discussed.

Building projects often involve several stages, from initial design and planning through to structural calculations, technical documentation and construction.
DJM Building Design offers a flexible approach, allowing clients to commission individual services or a coordinated package suited to their project.
We can also provide technical clarification and design support during construction, where agreed as part of the appointment.
